Busy busy busy~
Last week was very busy for me, so I apologize for not writing.
My roommate actually didn't get here until the very last minute, and by that time I'd gotten so impatient and hungry while waiting for her that I left to grab some dinner on the other campus.
When I got back, she and her family had gotten here and they were unpacking their stuff. They didn't need me to help them unpack her stuff, but we had a chance to talk a bit and they seem like cool people. Her father is actually a Stephen King fan, and I thought that was really cool.
My roommate is also really cool. She's very outgoing and friendly, and I was surprised to find out that she actually likes anime, too. She does party a bit, but I don't think we'll have any problems. Actually, to be completely honest, I do want to go out and party a bit, though I think my definition of the word "party" is different from most college students' definitions. I know that most parties involve just staying out late and getting drunk with friends, but I just want to go out sometime, not necessarily to drink but to have fun.
My classes so far don't seem like they're going to be difficult, though I had homework in them all during the first days. I still haven't gotten around to starting my figure drawing for my fashion project class, but I don't have that class until Friday so I will definitely have time during the week to do it. I'm a little concerned about the drawing class because my professor wants me to work in HB pencil, which allows me almost no decent tone variation. :\ My first homework assignment in that class was a still life which will be due tomorrow, and I'm hoping like hell that mine won't look awful compared to the other ones.
I also had a lot of fun going to the events during Welcome Week, which is the first week of classes after move-in where a lot of the different departments and organizations around campus host a number of helpful discussion lectures and social events. I don't exactly have time to write about them in detail right now because it's about time for me to leave, but hopefully I'll get back to those later.

Life in the Dorm
I moved in yesterday, and so far it hasn't been too bad. I had some trouble setting up my computer because the monitor didn't want to work right, but that's probably the worst thing that's happened to me since I moved. Luckily it was just a bad driver and my boyfriend helped me fix it over the phone. It's working fine now, as you might guess.
I was expecting my bed to be uncomfortable, but I slept surprisingly well last night. However, that may have been due to the fact that I had gotten almost no sleep at all the night before and because I didn't get around to going to bed until after 1 AM. I was up that late organizing my belongings and making sure that everything was unpacked and put away. I probably should have gone to bed earlier and worked on it today because I'm kind of bored right now, but the girls in one of the rooms down the hall were so loud that I probably wouldn't have been able to fall asleep if I'd gone to bed earlier anyway.
The shower was also surprisingly decent. I didn't have high expectations for it, but it had pretty good water pressure, and it never seemed to run out of hot water. However, I did wake up pretty early this morning and I'm pretty sure nobody else was using the bathroom while I was in the shower, so that may have something to do with it. My only complaint is that it was difficult for me to shave my legs in the cramped space, but I think after classes start I'm going to start shaving my legs at night, when I won't have to be somewhere at a particular time.
Well, my roommate should be arriving soon, so I'll write more later~

Shopping and Granado Espada
He's gone.
I thought I would cry, but I didn't. I had even planned not to wear any eye makeup because I was worried that I would end up crying and rubbing it off before the day was over, but as it turned out I didn't need to worry after all. It was a good idea anyway because I was tired when I got home and needed to rest a bit before I was ready to do anything else.
After I dropped him off at the airport, I did some comfort shopping. I used my new GPS to navigate around Greensboro, which made things easier for me, even though I always miss that exit turn from Battleground onto Wendover, lulz. It was a pretty good trip. I bought a $90 Kathy Van Zeeland bag for only $40, and I bought a cute chemise with matching boyshorts and a shower wrap at Kohl's.
I really need to stop spending my money, though. I paid my college bill yesterday and it was almost $7,000. It ate a huge chunk out of my savings account. :\
I started playing Granado Espada yesterday after I finally came up with a good family name for my characters, but unfortunately it's kind of boring, as far as gameplay goes. The characters and environment are beautiful and I really do love the game for the character designs, but the whole system of leveling and hunting monsters is very frustrating. I don't mind killing lots of monsters to level up, but the maps are so filled with monsters that go aggro on your characters and then respawn almost immediately after you kill them, which isn't very convenient if you're traveling or even if you just want to pick up the occasional item drops. I might give it a few more days to get better, but if it doesn't, I'll probably go back to RO2. It's probably a good thing that I haven't gotten too attached to it, though. I'm going to be too busy for MMOs after I move, anyway.

Surprise!
Another update today. :3
The fuse in my cigarette lighter was broken, so the car dealer replaced it for me and now my GPS works fine. :3 I used it to drive home, and I'm thinking about using it tomorrow when we drive to the airport, but I probably won't rely on it too much because the roads to the airport have been under construction for a while and the GPS might not have them registered on the map correctly. I think I might do some comfort shopping after I drop my boyfriend off, and that'll probably be a good way for me to get used to my GPS, even though I don't really plan on buying anything.
By some miracle, the mochi I ordered from Amazon a few days ago arrived today, and I'm surprised and a little disappointed that it tastes very similar to the half-assed mochi that I cooked in the microwave myself ages ago. I guess it would probably taste better without the extra flour coating it, but without the flour the mochi would be very sticky, so I understand why it was necessary. I'm glad that it arrived today at least; I was worried that it wouldn't get here until tomorrow and then my boyfriend wouldn't have been able to try it. I don't think he particularly cared for it, but at least he got to try it. Personally, I think I'm going to stick to mochi ice cream from now on. I will finish the stuff I bought (and share it with anyone who wants some) because I spent good money on it, but I probably won't buy it again.
In other news, I've been having the worst time trying to download Granado Espada. If it weren't so pretty, I would probably have given up on it by now. I've tried to download it from two different websites today. The first one was a zip file that took forever to finish and then turned out to be corrupt, and the second one was a downloader program that crashed halfway through the download and then tried to start over when I ran it again, even though the completed parts of the download were right where it left them. :\ There are some forces at work trying to prevent me from playing this game. I'm also a little worried by an awful review of it that I found on Google earlier today. However, since it's free, I'm not going to pass up trying it myself just because of a bad review, even though it'll most likely end up being a waste of my time either way. That's what I'm looking for, after all. :3
Oh, something interesting happened the other day. I was looking at a floor plan of my dorm building to see how far my room was from the bathroom and other places, and out of curiosity while I was looking up my room assignment, I also went to look at my roommate status again, and I noticed that they changed my roommate assignment. It made me wonder why they made the change; did my first roommate decide not to attend VCU, or did she find another place to live? Or did VCU Housing swap her with somebody else because they thought that based on our major programs, she'd get along with somebody else better or vice versa? I guess I'll never know, but I secretly hope that my roommate will be an art major or share some common interests with me, even though that isn't very likely. I'll be happy even if that isn't the case, as long as we can get along.
Well, that's all for now. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be done downloading this thing so I can start wasting my time playing it.

Shoes and other distractions
The shoes arrived the next day, and with free shipping! I can't believe how awesome that is. No wonder everyone loves Zappos. :3 Now, if only I could afford to buy shoes from them more often.
Other than that, I don't have much to say. I'm up early because I'm going to the car dealer to have them look at my car's cigarette lighter because it doesn't seem to be working. If only a regular lighter could power my new GPS. I just hope they can get it working because I've already opened the thing and started using it. I've even mounted the permanent disk that it sticks to on my dashboard already, so I'm pretty sure I can't return it.
I'm also downloading a new MMORPG, Granado Espada, because I'm getting a little bored of playing kRO2 and Granado Espada seems to have an interesting character system. I'll probably play it obsessively for a few weeks or months and then abandon it like every other MMO I've played, but at least for a while it'll be a pretty little distraction to keep my mind off of my anxiety about VCU and the fact that my boyfriend will be gone tomorrow.
Anyway, I need to finish getting ready to go. I may write later today, but no promises.

Impatience and more anxiety
I feel like I'm still playing the waiting game with VCU. I've been accepted and I've finished almost everything that needs to be done before I can go up there, but I still feel anxious and impatient. I probably won't feel comfortable about the whole thing until I actually get up there, but it seems like the summer is dragging on forever, and I don't like it. I feel like I should be relaxing, but I can't relax because I want things to get done, but I can't get everything done right away and I'm frustrated about that.
In addition to being impatient about starting at VCU, I've also been a little upset that my boyfriend will be leaving soon. I don't like being emotional or mopey, and I don't want those kinds of feelings to prevent me from enjoying my experience at VCU, but I don't really know how I'm going to deal without him. We didn't think we'd ever have to say goodbye again, and that's going to be the hardest part about it. I don't really want to think about it.
In other news, I finally got around to ordering the shoes that my mom promised to buy for me. I decided to just get the Converse shoes and not bother with the other pair. They're cute, but I looked at a similar pair by the same brand in Journeys and I just didn't think I would like them because they're made differently from the kinds of shoes that I'm used to wearing and I just don't know if I would be happy with them. Plus they're skate shoes, and I'm not a skater, so I don't know if I should even be wearing them if I'm just going to be walking in them. So for now, I'm not going to worry about spending the extra money on them.
Well, I have to wake up early tomorrow morning, so I'm going to go get ready for bed now. Goodnight! :3
